How do you handle my personal information and privacy?
We respect our customers’ privacy and have taken all the possible measures from day one where our resources allowed, to meet strict requirements such as EEA’s GDPR. We operate an ethical business of the highest standard, which means we never sell or share your personal information to 3rd parties, use it without your consent, or litter our terms and conditions with small prints. You say you do “Gentlemen’s Accessories” and not “Men’s Accessories”, what’s the difference?
Men’s Accessories cover basically just about everything in the category in all shapes and forms, e.g. for shoes you can have loafers, sneakers, leather shoes in brown or burgundy. “Gentlemen’s Accessories” are much more specific not just in the type of products but also the style within a particular product type. In the shoes example, we do a specific type of shoes (the Oxfords, black, and laced) that are regarded as traditional gentlemen’s shoes. As a category, we also do specific products that are not your everyday items, such as Animal Head Umbrellas that have also a long tradition of associating with the gentleman lifestyle.
Do you have retail outlets?
No. We've built CHESS from the ground up to be an Online business for two reasons: better pricing and content creation. With our own brand and online-only, we bypass the retail “middleman” that often demands a hefty percentage of the margin. Hence for a similar kind of product (e.g. Ties) we are able to offer a lower price online than through a retailer - as in the case of many legacy brands. Then of course we have our content part "We Shape Gentlemen” magazine, which finds relevance only as a modern day digital media.
Where are your products made and by whom?
At launch we are working with an international mix of suppliers from Italy and China. They are characterised by being medium to small in size, established with a long history and in many cases, have a clientele of well-known global brands. We are working with suppliers also from Japan and the United Kingdom on future new products.
What countries do you ship products to?
We ship to major Asian, North American and European markets, covering over 35 countries. These include Japan, Singapore, UK, many EU countries, the US and Canada. You will be able to check out and pay if your country or region is included in our ship-to list.
How long does it take to ship the products to me?
We base our operations in Hong Kong for its world-class logistic infrastructure, which translates to fast and reliable shipment to our customers. Orders from within Hong Kong are considered local, and will take just 1-2 days to deliver. International orders are mostly handled by our global partners SF Express and DHL Express, and usually take 3-5 days, excluding times at customs. Please note that there are many factors affecting shipping time that are beyond our control, so please treat this information as a reference only.
What do your prices include or exclude?
By default our prices are shown in US dollars, automatically converted to your local currency by location. They include the cost of the product only and exclude any taxes (see next item about Duties and Taxes) and shipping costs. We charge a flat shipping rate of $30 USD for global express delivery, to be added to the total price at check out. If your total order is $100 or more, that $30 USD will automatically be waived as part of our Free Shipping program.
How are Import Duties and Sales Taxes handled?
With the exception of Hong Kong and a few others, most countries charge import duties and local sales taxes, which are beyond our scope and/or authority to manage. Our shipping partners will contact you once your order arrives at the port, and inform you of such costs (along with any other charges where applicable). It is your sole responsibility to check with your local authorities before placing an order with us and settle these costs before the goods can be delivered or collected, and we cannot issue a refund based on your failure to pay for these costs.
Can I return a product if I change my mind?
Yes absolutely! You have 30 days to return the product to us for exchange or refund. All we ask you to do is be a gentleman, and return the product to us in its original, unused condition. Please read our Return Policy for details.
I see only SHOP PAY and Paypal payment options, do you offer other options?
Our online store is powered by the Shopify platform, which offers SHOP PAY that actually includes all major credit cards such as VISA, Mastercard and Union Pay, with the highest standards of security.
How does your “subscribe and get 15% off first purchase” work?
We are building a community through our free magazine We Shape Gentlemen. We encourage you to sign up by giving away a 15% discount off your first time purchase with no amount limit. Once you sign up you will receive our Welcome Email in which you will find instructions on how to claim the discount.
