(A 2.5 minute read)
Do you shave like the models in razor ads?
If you do you might find the tips in this article inspiring.
Shaving is an integral part of a man’s life. To get the best results you want to start with a shower that would allow you to wash your entire face and neck thoroughly to prep for the shave. All you need is a quality shampoo and nothing else.
Next is apply the shaving cream.
The key is to invest in a really good one like the Clinique for Men Aloe Shave Gel, instead of the high street brands. It may cost 3 to 4 times more, but it’s also 3 to 4 times more concentrated and you really feel the rich smoothness that the cheaper ones just can’t compare.
For razor the usual choice is between Gillette and Schick. Personally I choose the Gillette SkinGuard for Sensitive Skin as it does reduce redness and irritations even though I don’t have sensitive skins.
The most important shaving technique is MOVE YOUR SKIN, NOT JUST THE RAZOR, as shown in razor ads!
As you shave, stretch your face skin to create a maximum contour so that your stubbles are fully exposed to the razor blades. This is the only way to get a really clean shave. Don’t just rely on the razor to do all the work!
The reason you never see models in TV ads do this is because they are selling a razor which is the focus and they want to show you just how EFFORTLESS it is to use. After all the image of a handsome man pushing his face muscle out with his tongue from inside his mouth is not exactly sexy in a TV commercial!
Some people repeat the shaves by running the razor in opposite directions. I find it unnecessary and it often leads to accidental cuts as it’s much harder to control the razor in reverse.
When finished, wash the razor thoroughly in running water AND tap it a few times to shake out the trapped water that may breed germs and lead to rust, then leave it to dry with the BLADES UP so air can get through the structure.
The After Shave Balm has been around for a long time, but I don’t think many men use it - I certainly don’t. Instead I apply an All-In-One lotion that not only soothes the skin, but has anti-aging and anti-UV properties. This works on my entire face and neck with far greater benefits, so there’s no point using a balm that only works on the shaved areas with limited benefits.
To finish off, I like to add a few bursts of quality fragrance - men’s fragrance of course! The smell of fragrance can be a powerful personal signature, but there are many dos and don’ts we should know, and I will write a separate blog to talk about it.
So stay tuned!
